What does it take to make your blog site profitable? Nice question. Take a reality check! Here are the elements to look for that denote profitable blogging:

1. Regularly-updated Valuable Content - How often do you update your blog? What do you normally write about? The answer to these questions largely affects the potential profitability of your blog. If you write mostly anything under the sun for your plain pleasure whenever you just feel like it, then earning income from your blog is something that shouldn't cross your mind in the first place. Profitable blogs are those that actually provide value to people. It should contain something people want to know more of or are passionate about. A humorous blog on something is a good, occasional stopover for Netizens in need of a break but that's that. No income there. Unless you coin up a blog that, well, helps people become great stand-up comedians and whose content are actually contributed in by experts, that would be something. Get the picture?

2. User-Friendly Navigation - Order, order, order. For anything to succeed there must be order. A blog that's well-designed and well-organized provides a pleasant experience for readers as it's easy to navigate from one page to another or it's easy to find whatever they need (in your archives perhaps) that they might decide to check out eventually.

3. Big Readership - Did you know that blogs these days are being sold for big profits? Well, blogs with big readerships or have many subscribers sell out big in the market as each reader correlates to a value in dollars in terms of potential advertising income or plain buying power. A blog having a subscriber base of 1,500,000 would definitely more valuable to a buyer over a blog that only has 20,000 subscribers. Do the math.

4. Heavy Site Traffic - As with any website, the higher the visitor traffic the higher the money involved via clickthroughs and other ad-related revenue. You will attain heavy site traffic if you have elements 1 to 3 above.
